Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon

From its humble beginnings in 1970 when a group of friends from the University of Washington decided to hold their own marathon, the Seattle Marathon has grown into one of the largest combination marathon/half marathons in the Northwest.That first marathon 50 years ago sported less than 30 runners. This year, thousands of participants are expected for the marathon and half marathon walking and running events.
The course begins at 5th Avenue at Harrison Street, in front of the Museum of Pop Culture. Participants travel through downtown and along Seattle’s iconic bridges, waterways and neighborhoods. The course is USATF certified and serves as a Boston qualifier and a World Marathon Majors qualifying event.
Join us the Sunday after Thanksgiving (US) for Seattle’s Original Hometown Marathon.
Course Highlights
The course starts in front of the Museum of Pop Culture at 5th Avenue and Harrison Street and takes runners through downtown Seattle, onto the I-5 Express, over Lake Union, onto the Burke Gilman Trail, through Gas Works Park, along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and over the Aurora Bridge before finishing in Memorial Stadium.
