Florence Marathon

This is Firenze (Florence) Marathon!Step by step all along its 42 kilometers and 195 meters you are surrounded by centuries of art, history and culture, a unique emotion that can only be experienced by those who run in Florence. Year after year, thousands of sportspeople and enthusiasts from all over the world come to participate in this classic race on the last Sunday in November.The route takes you by all those landmarks of singular beauty that have made Florence famous worldwide: views over the enchanting hills and countryside, and passing right by the Cathedral Square, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio (to mention only just a few of historical importance), before entering the majestic Piazza Santa Croce. This great event in Florence has increased immeasurably recently: this extraordinary increase in participation also testifies to the constant attention given to the organization of the race. Florence Marathon is now the second Italian marathon (after Rome), and among the 20 most important marathons in the world.
The race involves many narrow streets, but runners also pass by some amazing Italian scenery and architecture. This includes views of the surrounding hills and countryside and a route that passes the likes of the Cathedral Square, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**
Medical certificates for foreigners in Italian marathons and half marathons no longer required.
Foreign athletes can finally participate in international marathons and half marathons, without having to obligatorily present a medical certificate. From now on they’ll simply sign a liability waiver.
The Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) has amended a regulation which, until now, required organizers to only accept medical certificates that conformed to the Italian legal system.
Finally, all Italian sports events of international level will have the opportunity to welcome all those foreign citizens, with tourist-sporting goals, who had always run elsewhere due to the Italian bureaucratic difficulties.
The participation regulations for foreign athletes registered for sports clubs affiliated to foreign federations remain unchanged.
To sum it up:
If you run with tourist-sporting goals it will be enough to choose the non competitive race option and fill in the liability waiver . In this case you are not be included in the FIDAL/IAAF ranking list and you can’t compete for a prize. You’ll have your time but it will be not recognize as an official time.
If you prefer to take part in the agonistic race, have the chance to compete for a prize and be included in the FIDAL/IAAF ranking list you should choose competitive option and :
– hold membership of a foreign Sports Federation affiliated with IAAF and in this case you have to provide Asics Firenze marathon with a copy of the association license
– get the FIDAL Runcard and provide Asics Firenze Marathon with a copy of the medical certification which allows you to take part in competitive races according to the Italian law.
