Ice Age Trail 50

September 11, 2021 @ 12:00 am

The Ice Age Trail 50 was the first 50-mile ultramarathon in the Midwest. And now, many years later, it stands as one of the oldest, continuously running 50-mile races in the country. The Start/Finish area of the Ice Age Trail races is located at the Nordic Trailhead in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine Forest. While the course tops numerous hills, none of them are extremely long or overly steep in nature, but they are incessant. The terrain consists of mostly single track dirt, rocky and tree rooted trail that runs through pinewoods, hardwood forests, and rolling prairie lands, a little bit of everything. The 50 mile course will be marked with YELLOW ground flags.Course Highlights
The race begins with a 9 mile counterclockwise loop on the blue Nordic Trail, followed by an out-and-back to Rice Lake. At confusion corner, runners proceed north to Emma Carlin. Once there, they reverse direction and follow the Ice Trail back to the finish area.
