TCU’s Freri, Texas’ Pash Named Big 12 Swimmers of the Week

TCU and Texas student-athletes obtained Big 12 swimming and diving awards for the third week of the season. For the men’s awards, TCU’s Geremia Freri won swimmer of the week and shared newcomer of the week with Texas’ Luke Hobson while Texas’ Jordan Windle captured diver of the week. For the women, Texas swept all three awards. Kelly Pash was named swimmer of the week while Hailey Hernandez secured diver of the week and Erica Sullivan acquired newcomer of the week.

Freri collects his second Big 12 Swimmer and Newcomer of the Week awards of the season. The freshman notched three NCAA B cuts and won three events for TCU at the USC Invitational. The Verona, Italy native broke the school record in the 1650 freestyle by approximately 19 seconds with his time of 15:04.35. His 1000-yard split of 9:08.94 also set a school record. He also broke the school record by 4.66 seconds in the 500 freestyle with his time of 4:17.71 and was: .03 off from breaking the school record in the 400 IM with his time of 3:49.52. TCU had a third-place team finish at the event.

Windle repeats as Big 12 Men’s Diver of the Week, and now has 19 Big 12 weekly awards throughout his acclaimed career. The four-time Big 12 Diver of the Year led Texas on the road at No. 16 Texas A&M and claimed the 3m with a score of 423.60 points. He also had a second-place finish in the 1m with a score of 357.08 points. The Longhorns won the meet over their in-state rival 185-107.

Hobson had a stellar showing in College Station, finishing second in the 500-yard (4:29.00) and 1000-yard (9:11.56) freestyle. The freshman’s 1000-yard freestyle time was the fourth-fastest time by a Longhorn this season.

Pash claims her first Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week of the season and her fourth of her career. The 2020 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year put on a show against No. 21 Texas A&M, swimming the third leg of the 200 medley relay and helping Texas win the event with a time of 1:38.70. The junior went on to record NCAA B cut times finishing with the top time in both the 100-yard (49.22) and 200-yard butterfly events (1:55.14). Pash finished the meet in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:59.60. The Longhorns posted a 180-112 victory over the Aggies.

Hernandez procures her second Big 12 Women’s Diver of the Week award in a row. The freshman swept both events in College Station capturing the 3m with a score of 383.70 points and winning the 1m with her score of 328.73 points.

Sullivan received Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week for the first time in her career. The freshman won her second 1000-yard freestyle race of the season with a time of 9:44.75. She had a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.25 registering an NCAA B standard time.
