IRONMAN California live blog

Our live blog, with John Levison on hand to provide colour and insight, will start at 1400 BST on Sunday (0900 Eastern, 0600 Pacific) and run through to the end of the race.

Who is racing at IRONMAN California?

As we said, the three main combatants are all box-office attractions:

Jan Frodeno: The modern-day GOAT, unbeaten in four years and the man who set a new iron-distance world record time just three months ago. Now 40, remains the gold standard for long-distance triathletes.

Gustav Iden: The brilliant 25-year-old Norwegian makes his full-distance debut, and what a challenge it is. Hugely impressive in winning a second 70.3 World Championship last month, can he take the ultimate step?

Lionel Sanders: ‘No Limits’ clearly did not want to miss out on this particular party, throwing his hat into the ring just days after saying he was done at full distance for the year after a gruelling summer campaign.

Throw in the likes of Swede Rasmus Svenningsson and we have all the ingredients for a terrific race.
