Georgia Taylor-Brown ‘felt flat’ en route to Commonwealth silver

Georgia Taylor-Brown admitted she “felt flat” all day as she was forced to settle for Commonwealth Games silver behind the brilliant Flora Duffy in Birmingham on Friday.

Taylor-Brown’s famed run legs deserted her as she finished 41 seconds behind the reigning Olympic and World Champion in front of a huge crowd in Sutton Park.

GTB was right with her great rival Duffy into T2, but was unable to go with the Bermudian as she turned on the power early in the run.

Afterwards the Team England star admitted: “It was really hard. The swim start was very odd. I think me and Flora got a little bit mugged off, we didn’t know what was happening.

“We just looked at each other and were like, my gosh, we’re going. So there was a bit of a chaotic start.

“The bike, we discussed beforehand that we wanted to try to make something happen, make it a bit exiting I guess and not just roll around.

“She said she was going to go and I went with her. It paid off, we went very hard, I think I was a bit useless to her but I gave it my best shot.”

With the two big pre-race favourites arriving in T2 together, the stage seemed set for an epic finish. It did not play out like that for Georgia though.

She said: “The run, I just didn’t have the legs today. I felt flat all day so I wasn’t sure how this was going to go. Considering how I felt before the race, I’m extra happy with the silver medal.

“The course is so hard on the run, but the crowd are absolutely incredible and to be in a breakaway with Flora gave me goosebumps, the crowd were incredible out there and I want to thank everyone for coming down and watching.”

Bored of chasing home Flora

This was undoubtedly a special day with that massive home crowd providing huge backing, but Georgia was disappointed not to come away with gold

“I’m a bit bored of coming second to Flora constantly, so we need to change that and Alex obviously came away with his gold this morning so I’m a bit gutted I can’t copy him in that aspect because we usually just copy each other in races this year. But silver, I can’t complain with that today.

“I’m doing my best and I’m just enjoying every minute of it because the next two years are going to be quite focused ahead of Paris.”
