Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Reid Miller, one of the country’s top remaining uncommitted men’s swimmers in the high school class of 2022, has chosen to stay close to home and commit to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Miller is a senior at Bradford Preparatory School in Charlotte, NC and trains year-round at SwimMac. Miller was a member of SwimSwam’s “Best of the Rest” in the boys 2022 high school recruit rankings.
Miller told SwimSwam, “I am beyond excited and honored to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and swim career at the University of North Carolina. A special thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and anyone who has helped me get to where I am today. #goheels”
As a versatile sprinter, Miller projects to bring immense value to the Tar Heel program with the potential to play a role on any of the Tar Heels’ relays. At last spring’s Eastern Zone Sectionals, Miller qualified for the A final in the 50, 100 and 200 free and 100 back, while also finishing in the B final in the 100 fly and 200 back.
Miller’s best short course yards times include:
50 free: 20.26
100 free: 44.39
200 free: 1:37.43
100 back: 48.50
200 back: 1:50.37
100 fly: 48.86
At the 2021 ACC Championships, the UNC men finished in 6th out of 12 teams and just 11 points behind Florida State for 5th. Miller will still have some improvement to make in his top events before he is ready to score individually at the conference level, as it took 19.87 in the 50, 43.81 in the 100 and 1:36.88 in the 200 free to qualify for last year’s C final.
On UNC’s relays, Miller’s best 200 free is about a second shy of UNC’s fourth leg from their ACC 800 free relay, his 50 is four tenths off UNC’s slowest leg in the 200 free relay and his 100 free matches the Tar Heels’ 4th leg of their 400 free relay.
The ACC has become one of the most competitive men’s conferences in the country in recent years, with Louisville topping perennial powerhouse NC State for the team title and a resurgent Virginia team bringing in strong recruiting classes.
Miller becomes a headliner for Mark Gangloff’s 2022 recruiting class, creating a formidable sprinting duo with fellow commit Tyler Roberton. He also joins Tanner Jones, Patrick Sleater, Spencer Freeman, Jack Guenther, Alex Lakatta and Hunter Lund in the UNC class of 2026.
