Welcome To KCTC
What We Do
We are an adult running club with a focus on fun and a 30 year history of service to the KC running community. We’re working to expand the opportunities for both beginners and seasoned runners to enjoy the health benefits and fun of our sport.
KCTC Sponsored Races
Brew To Brew – Our premier event is a 43 mile solo, or a team relay from KC to Lawrence, with over 3,000 runners. We raised $40,000 for Cystic Fibrosis in 2007. The Cliffhanger – A 5K/8K on scenic Cliff Drive in KC, MO, that benefits Special Olympics, and the Gladstone Elementary School. St. Pats – A 4 miler in historic Westport (in partnership with the KC Sports Commission).
Charitable Road Races
KCTC has 30 years of experience staging approximately 30 area races a year, including Beat The Heat, Cancer Action, Broadway Bridge, Abby’s Run for The Heart, and Sacred Steps. We work with the charity to set up the race, provide a race director, measure and certify the course, manage race day logistics, provide timing and finish line services and post results to KC running websites. These races raise thousands of dollars for local charities.
Just For Fun
On the non-competitive side, we sponsor a number of free, fun runs where everyone, including non-members, is welcome. Wednesday Night Run – The KCTC has been sponsoring this potluck for almost 30 years. It is a "movable feast" that meets at a local runner’s home for a run or walk and dinner. Call 816-333-RACE or check our website for the week’s location.
Monday Runs – Since 1985, this low key, social run ends with food and drinks at the 75th Street Brewery in Waldo. New Year’s Day Run – A social run with food and hot drinks after.
Trail Runs
KCTC is proud to have the KC Trail Nerds as a partner. The Trail Nerds are at the forefront of the trail running boom taking place across the country and have some of the finest trail and ultra running talent in the KC area. The Trail Nerds host a Vasque trail race series throughout the year with a variety of distances and difficulty from 5K to 100 km. The tough PsycoWyco in February is becoming a trail running must do, with competitors coming from all over the world. Check out the trail action at www.psychowyco.com. There are also other trail runs such as Dude, Where’s The Trail? and the kinder, gentler Blue Springs 50/50 on the little Blue Trace.
Northland Runners
KC Northland Runners is a running group originated and dedicated to those who wish to run in the Northland. We run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30pm, from Macken Park on the south side parking lot across from North Kansas City High School track. Pace times and distances vary. We also run at 7:00 am on Sunday mornings during the summer and 8AM during the cooler months from Macken Park, on the west side of the park by the restrooms. We have been running together for about 15 years
Beginning Runners
Several times a year, the KCTC offers ten week, free training sessions on Monday evenings for new runners. Classes start at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center, KC, MO. Check our website or call KCTC for details.
